Woolen Mill – Valley Forge

A large textile mill operated at this site near what is now the junction of Routes 23 and 252 from 1837 to 1890. A large number of employees living in the village of Valley Forge worked for several different owners through most of the 19th century.

The mill made jeans, doeskin and government kersey fabric for the Union Army during the Civil War. Water powered machinery using 82 looms once produced 42,000 yards of doeskin jeans per month.
